After a hiatus of over two years, former Slovakian tennis sensation Martin Klizan has taken the tennis world by storm with the unexpected news of his return to the court. Klizan, a former ATP tour titleholder with an impressive six titles and a career-high ATP world ranking of 24, retired from professional tennis in 2021 to explore a political career.

However, Klizan has revealed his decision to return to competitive tennis in an exclusive interview with Sportweb. The Slovakian icon expressed unparalleled determination and enthusiasm for his return, citing a newfound motivation and an intense desire to excel again on the court.

“At this moment, I feel a level of motivation surpassing any I’ve experienced. I’ve channeled every ounce of energy, be it positive or negative, into my training regimen. I possess an immense inner drive and aim to showcase more than ever. My sole focus right now is hard work, sacrifice, sweat, blood, and pain,” Klizan affirmed.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead due to his absence from the circuit, resulting in a zero-point ranking, Klizan articulated his ambitions for a triumphant return, aiming to secure invitations to tournaments and progressively carve his path back into competitive tennis.

Reflecting on the catalyst for his comeback, Klizan opened up about witnessing the training conditions of his country’s junior players this summer, which fueled his discontent and steered him back towards the sport. “The frustration I felt transformed into a growing urge to elevate my game, to exhibit the mastery I’ve cultivated. The adrenaline rush, the pressure, the victories, the electrifying moments in front of the crowd are what I’ve missed most,” he shared.

The 34-year-old tennis maestro also revealed an unfulfilled aspiration—a dedication medal for Slovakia in the Davis Cup—a feat he’s relentlessly striving for, just one nomination away from achieving. Klizan’s illustrious career boasts victories over the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Stan Wawrinka, igniting an unquenchable fire within him to aim higher and chase his dreams on the court.

“I’ve rediscovered my passion for tennis. I’ve evolved from being a mere spectator to now relishing the sport. I believe that today’s top ten players are more beatable than a decade ago,” Klizan asserted, emphasizing the transformation he perceives in the competitiveness of the sport.

Klizan’s comeback to the tennis circuit has ignited enthusiasm and excitement among fans and pundits alike, eagerly anticipating the resurgence of this seasoned tennis maverick as he embarks on his quest for greatness once more.
