Joe Burrow’s monumental contract includes an astounding $219.01 million in guaranteed money, cementing his status as the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Last season, the 26-year-old showcased his prowess with a remarkable 4,475 passing yards, a career-best 35 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions. Furthermore, he led the Bengals to the AFC Championship game for the second consecutive year.
Although he still has two years remaining on his rookie contract as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the Bengals have made a decisive commitment to retaining their franchise quarterback for the long haul.
The transformation of the Bengals since drafting Burrow has been nothing short of spectacular. They have gone from being the NFL’s cellar-dwellers in 2019, with only two wins to their name, to reaching the Super Bowl in 2021.
Burrow’s historic deal follows a trend of top NFL quarterbacks securing lucrative contracts. Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers inked a five-year agreement with an average annual value of $52.5 million, while Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts ($51 million) and Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson ($52 million) also signed extensions that briefly made them the highest-paid players in the league.
