Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn has ignited boxing enthusiasts’ excitement by confirming an offer for a potentially colossal British title showdown, signaling an electrifying clash between two beloved figures hailing from their respective cities.
Hearn’s extensive discussions with Wasserman Boxing over the past year have centered on the prospect of a riveting match between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. This highly anticipated match promises a mix of controversy, historical significance, and intense rivalry.
Expanding on his efforts, Hearn has disclosed another offer involving Harlem Eubank, cousin of Chris, following a spectacular win against Germany’s Timo Schwarzkopf, a victory sealed in the eleventh round.
In an exclusive conversation with International Boxing News, Hearn shed light on his proposal, envisioning a clash between Harlem Eubank and British Super-Lightweight Champion Dalton Smith. Hearn emphasized the marketability of this event, driven not only by the exceptional skill of both fighters but also by the unwavering support from their hometowns of Brighton and Sheffield.
“We have made an offer to Wasserman for Harlem Eubank. I think that is a massive domestic fight,” stated Hearn. “I don’t think they will want to take that fight; you heard Eubank Sr say last night about him [Harlem] moving up to 147lbs.”
Hearn acknowledged Harlem’s impressive performance against Schwarzkopf and the excitement surrounding both Harlem and Dalton as fighters. He sees the potential for Dalton to elevate his career by engaging in a high-profile about, predicting a surge in audience attendance from a few thousand to an impressive eight or nine thousand fans in Sheffield.
However, hurdles might impede the anticipated matchup, particularly concerns about Eubank’s ability to meet the 140lbs limit, potentially complicating the prospects of witnessing this showdown.
